[ARCHIVED] Enjoy the 4th of July in Charles City!!

Many activities are scheduled for July 3 - 7 and there is something for everyone. July 3 is Kids Day at Central Park with activities including a kids parade, free games and activites, free ice cream and a stage show called "Snakes Alive". There is also a kids free swim at Lions Pool with the annual Penny Dive at 4:00. Live music will also be provided on July 3 from 5:00 p.m. to midnight in Central Park. On July 4, start off with the Firecracker 5 Run/Walk on the Charley Western Trail at 7:30 a.m.. The annual parade will start at 10:30 and will go south down Main Street, crossover on Riverside and head north on Jackson Street. Vendors will be in Central Park following the parade to provide food, drinks and entertainment. The day will culminate with the fireworks which will be shot off from the Court House parking lot at 10:00 p.m. The fun continues on July 5 with a sand volleyball tourney, free admission to the Carrie Chapman Catt girlhood home and museum (July 4,5,6 and 7) and a classic car cruise through Charles City at 8:00 p.m. For something different, a bed race will be held on Jackson Street at 6:00 p.m. There will also be a showing of Too Many Cooks by the Stony Point Players at the Charles Theater at 7:30 p.m. July 6 activites include a city wide pinewood derby, texting competition and Cruise, Blues and BBQ event from 3 - 7 pm that you won't want to miss. A family fun event will be held in Central Park on July 6 from 3 - 9 p.m with blues music, BBQ competition, games and food. The weekend concludes on July 7 with a Wings and Wheels Fly In breakfast from 7 a.m to noon at the Northeast Iowa Regional Airport and the Custom Antique and Rod Association car show at Central Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p,m. There will be a Bill Riley Talent Contest held at the Charles Theater at 1 pm and winners of that event could advance to the State Fair.
