On Monday, April 20th 2015, the Charles City Water Department personnel will begin flushing the City’s water distribution system. Flushing is done to clean out the City’s water mains by removing lime scale and mineral deposits that may have built up on the interior walls of the underground pipes. This process is necessary to maintain the integrity of the water system. It also allows the Water Department to operate every fire hydrant in the distribution system and identify any maintenance requirements for each fire hydrant on an individual basis.
The Water Department will begin flushing hydrants on the north side of the Cedar River on Monday, and will finish on the south side of town. Flushing of the water mains will take approximately one month to complete. Most residents will not notice any difference in their water; however, a few may experience some cloudiness or discoloration. Any issues should clear up in a short time.
If you have any questions or concerns about the flushing program please contact the Charles City Water Department at 641-257-6315.
