Most water services in Charles City are buried well enough to protect them from cold temperatures. However, depending on soil conditions and snow cover around properties, frost may penetrate the ground deep enough to freeze some water service lines during extremely cold weather. Please monitor the temperature of your cold water. This can be done with any household thermometer. If you find the temperature is below 40 degrees, it is recommended that you leave your faucet running with a stream around the size of lead in a pencil. This should keep your service line from freezing.
